Mountain Troops; Then and Now.

Historians and military representatives will come together at Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum in downtown Stowe to discuss how the equipment and training of mountain troops have evolved since the first mountain troop, the 10th Mountain Division began during World War II.

Panelists will include John Hart, Registrar, Sullivan Museum and History Center at Norwich University, Brian Lindner, Historian at the Waterbury Historical Society, a Vermont National Guard representative and Sepp Scanlin, Director of 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum.

The conversation will focus on the change over time in training and equipment and the role Vermont has played in this evolution. Additionally, the history organizations will discuss issues around to representing this history in light of our changing world but also the valuable insight the stories museums tell can offer.

The Museum will announce its new exhibit, opening in December 2018 “10th Mountain Division, Past and Present” in partnership with the Fort Drum Museum.

Support for the event is provided by The Green Mountain Inn and Collective Arts Brewing. Craft beer, wine and cider will be served at a cash bar. An optional entry donation helps support the museum’s mission to “Collect, Preserve and Celebrate Vermont’s Skiing and Snowboarding Heritage”.
